The Breeders' Cup Friday got underway today with fireworks both on and off the track.  The off-track excitement came from Calvin Borel who took serious exception to the ride Javier Castellano gave his horse in the fifth race of the day (the first of the Breeders' Cup races on the card).

Castellano moved 'Prince Will I Am' mid-race into the path of 'Romp' which then stumbled and bumped into Borel's mount 'A. U. Miner".  Castellano's horse ultimately finished in 2nd, while Borel's held on for 4th.  Stewards disqualified Castellano to 10th place moving Borel into 3rd.

Then near the weigh-in area, Borel shared some pointed words with Castellano who took a swing.  Borel literally was hopping mad - eyes bulging, face red.  It took a bunch of bystanders to separate the two combatants and a time out in the jockey's room for them to calm down.  Castellano had a ride in the following race, while Borel eventually mellowed.

In racing news, there were several upsets, including the Emirates Airlines Filly and Mare Turf (race #9) which was won by a 46-1 shot 'Shared Account'.
