Cool Breezes and Hot Competition at the Vermont Summer Festival

East Dorset, VT – Tracy Magness not only brought her horses up from Baltimore, MD, she brought the entire family to the Manchester and the Mountains Horse Show, the fifth of six weeks of competition at the Vermont Summer Festival, held at Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset, VT.
“It was so hot everywhere,” said Magness. “We decided to come up here because it is so much cooler.”
Making the trip was well worth her while as Magness and her string of horses came away from every class she entered on Wednesday, August 4, with a ribbon.
Magness rode Richydou, owned by Wendy Libert, to victory in the 1.15 meter jumper competition. The 12-year-old bay mare easily handled the course, turning in a double clear performance for the win.
The 1.20 meter jumper competition gave Magness her second ribbon of the day, a second place on Eurohorse Carrera, owned by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bartko. A new horse for Magness, the pair has only been showing together since February.
Response, who contested the 1.30 meter jumpers with Magness, placed eighth, and, a short time later in the $5,000 1.40 meter Open Jumper class, Magness earned fourth and fifth place ribbons with her two mounts, including her grand prix campaigner, Tarco van ter Moude.
Charlotte Jacobs of East Aurora, NY, might have taken last week off, but she and Kartouche vd Watering did not miss a beat. Jacobs, 14, and her big grey made their first attempt in the $5,000 1.40 meter Open Jumpers a winning one, jumping the course designed by Eric Hasbrouck without fault to claim victory.
“She was so nervous,” said Charlotte’s trainer, John Brennan of North Run in Warren, VT. “Kartouche is amazing.”
Jacobs and Kartouche vd Watering have been partnered together since May of 2009 and have garnered multiple victories in the Junior Jumper division.
Courtney Boyd and Eye Spy, owned by Allison Scott, returned to the show ring in Vermont to turn in beautiful rounds in the First Year Green Hunter division. Boyd and the eight-year-old Holsteiner gelding now display two first place ribbons and a second place ribbon on their stalls.
The fifth of six weeks of competition comprising the Vermont Summer Festival has begun. Week five’s featured event is the $30,000 Manchester and the Mountains Grand Prix, beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 8. Located at Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset, admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children Wednesday through Saturday. On Grand Prix Sunday, admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children. All gate proceeds benefit Manchester Elementary-Middle School (MEMS).
Running July 7 through August 15, 2010, the Vermont Summer Festival offers more than $750,000 in prize money, making it the richest sporting event based on purse in the state. The six-week Vermont Summer Festival culminates with the $50,000 Vermont Summer Celebration Grand Prix on Sunday, August 15. The Vermont Summer Festival is a proud member event of the Show Jumping Hall Of Fame, the Marshall & Sterling League, and the North American League (NAL).
