Drosselmeyer, owned by Winstar Farms and trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, was a 13-1 shot who charged  past First Dude and held off Fly Down to win the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes.

The Distorted Humor son did not have the earnings in graded stakes to qualify for the Kentucky Derby, and the Belmont was his first stakes win.   Previously he was third in the Louisiana Derby (Grade II) and 2nd in the Dwyer Stakes (Grade II)  at Belmont.

He was ridden by Mike Smith who took over the ride from Kent Desormeaux.  This was Smith's first win in the Belmonth and trainer Mott's first victory in a Triple Crown race.

The favorite, Ice Box, was never in contention and finished ninth.  Fly Down was second, First Dude hung on for third and Game On Dude was fourth.  The fifth-place runner, Uptowncharlybrown, was disqualified for losing his assigned lead weight which fell out from under the saddle during the race.
