Accidents involving horses which took place approximately three hundred miles apart earned headlines yesterday that sounded very similar.

In Pennsylvania, several horses got loose from a pasture near West Brandywine Township early Thursday morning.  There were two separate crashes, each of which involved a horse.  One of the horses was killed and the second had to be euthanized.  Neither of the drivers involved was hurt and the rest of the loose horses were successfully rounded up by the owner.

In Chesapeake, Virginia, early Friday morning, two horses were struck by a vehicle, were severely injured, and had to be euthanized.  A third horse was not injured.  All the horses had escaped from their paddock, and the surviving horse was returned there following the accident.  The driver was not injured, but his 1988 mustang vehicle was totaled.

None of the drivers involved in these incidents will face charges.  In all three cases,  the accidents were deemed unavoidable.
