Eugene R. Mische broke new ground in the promotion of show jumping in the United States. In 1967, he and a friend offered the first real prize money for a Grand Prix jumping class. With his Stadium Jumping Inc. organization, he continued to develop new shows and facilities including the Tampa American Invitational, the Florida Sunshine Circuit, the New York summer series (New Albany, Lake Placid, I Love New York), The American Grandprix Association, The Festival of Champions (with the USET), and the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida.

Mr. Mische brought major sponsors into the sport, raising the prize money and prestige of the competitions. Budweiser, Mercedes-Benz and Cosequin all signed on to promote major classes and show series. He was also instrumental in bringing the World Cup final to the US twice (1980 and 1989).

Mr. Mische was introduced to horses as a youngster and was a rider/competitor, owner, trainer, judge, and ultimately horse-show businessman throughout his life. Mr. Mische was honored as a recipient of the USEF Jimmy Williams Lifetime achievement award and was inducted into the US Show Jumping Hall of Fame.

He was 79 year of age, and passed away following a long battle with cancer.
