The Bureau of Land Management (BLM)  held it's first California 2011 wild horse adoption this weekend at the Sundance Ranch in Redlands.

According to PE.com , 15 horses and burros were available for adoption.  They were transported to the ranch from a BLM holding facility which houses as many as a 1000 animals.

Those who are interested in adopting a mustang or burro may attend one of these adoption days.  In Southern California, the next opportunity will be on January 22 in Woodland Hills.  Events are held in various locations throughout Southern California, approximately twice monthly.  You may also make an appointment to view the animals at the holding facilities.

The adoption procedure includes filling out an application and demonstrating your ability to care for the animal.  The adoption fee is $125.00.  After a year, if the bureau is satisfied that their requirements have been met, the new owner will be able to submit paperwork for ownership.
