The 50th Geneva International Horse Show (CHI-W) will be presenting a star-studded line up from the 9th to 12th December at Geneva Palexpo! An exceptional gathering – Olympic Champion, World Champion, European Champion, Winner of the last Rolex FEI World Cup Final, they'll all be there! – each day of the programme will have its highlight: the Credit Suisse Grand Prix on Thursday; the 10th Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final on Friday; the FEI World Cup™ Driving on Saturday and the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Grand Prix on Sunday – not forgetting the three competitions on Saturday evening to celebrate the event's anniversary. A dazzling and exciting programme starring the best riders and drivers in the world!

From 9th to 12th December, spectators at the 50th CHI-W will enjoy exciting competitions where the sporting stakes will be high. So, it's hardly surprising that the riders have been rushing to sign up! They'll all be here! From Canada, the Olympic Champion Eric Lamaze; the recently crowned World Champion from Belgium, Philippe Le Jeune, who really likes Geneva, particularly since his World Cup Grand Prix victory in 1992; the European Champion and currently number one in the Rolex Rankings, the Frenchman Kevin Staut; the winner here in Geneva of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Final, the German Marcus Ehning, who is also the current title holder of the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final. Other Olympic medallists like the Swede Rolf-Göran Bengtsson and the American McLain Ward will also be stepping out into the largest indoor arena in the world.

The Swiss riders are not going to be outdone with, in particular, the European Team Champions Pius Schwizer and Steve Guerdat, who both figure in the Top 10 and will therefore be competing in the 10th Rolex IJRC Final, which will take place on the Friday evening. Two Swiss: a historic first! Throughout the four days of competition, they will be in the company of – among other riders – Beat Mändli, who is often lucky in Geneva, Christina Liebherr, who has chosen the French-speaking public for LB No Mercy to bid his farewells to on Saturday evening and the two French-Swiss horsewomen Dehlia Œuvray Smits and Céline Stauffer.

23 nations represented

The first Swiss leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ brings together a total of some 60 riders. The Credit Suisse Grand Prix, billed for Thursday evening, will already provide an opportunity to compete in an exciting event that counts for the Rolex Rankings and is a qualifier for the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Grand Prix. During the latter, the Germans Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, Ludger Beerbaum and Christian Ahlmann, as well as the Brazilian Rodrigo Pessoa, will be concentrated on collecting points to ensure their participation at the final which will be held in 2011 in Leipzig.

A total of 23 countries will be represented in Geneva. Indeed, the organizers also wanted to open their doors to riders like the best horsewoman at the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Final, the Portuguese Luciana Diniz, as well the Japanese rider Taizo Sugitani. Plenty to fire up the enthusiasm of a public expected to attend in large numbers.

Seven drivers out to win the Driving World Cup™

The FEI Driving World Cup™ will be at its peak early Saturday evening. Seven drivers will compete for victory in the only Swiss leg on the World Cup circuit. The Australian Boyd Exell is currently in top form with victories in the Hannover and Stuttgart legs. And Geneva Palexpo's arena suits him particularly well, having won the FEI World Cup™ Final in April this year and the Grand Prix in 2008. Nevertheless, the Dutchman Ijsbrand Chardon, several times world champion, the Swede Tomas Eriksson, the Hungarian Zoltán Lázár and the Frenchman Thibault Coundry will give him a run for his money. Then there are the two Swiss: Daniel Würgler and Werner Ulrich, the latter holding a wild card.

Equestrian shows and circus magic

Equestrian shows are programmed to punctuate all the competitions. Guillaume Assire-Bécar's acts are truly enchanting, and Jean-Marc Imbert and his fire-eating horse are quite simply amazing. Whether the shows are taking place in the main arena or the display arena, on no account should they be missed. A driving quadrille performed by our best local drivers has already been planned for Thursday evening. And there will be a tribute to the circus world with poetic displays encompassing equestrian know-how.

For its 50th show, the Geneva CHI-W has really gone to town. The event has the best prize money of all the indoor shows and provides a skilful mix of sporting competitions and displays, which should please the public. A well-informed public, as many have already bought their tickets. For the latecomers, tickets can still be purchased from Resa+, the FNAC or the show's official website.
