An equine passport was recently listed for auction on eBay.  EBay removed the auction  and  suspended the account of the seller who was located in Britain.   All horses, ponies, and donkeys in the UK must have a passport.

It was not clear how eBay discovered the auction.  An eBay spokesman told Horse & Hound that they have technology and procedures to discover and stop the sale of illegal items.

It is, in fact, illegal to keep a horse's passport after the animal has died.  By law, the passport must be returned to the issuing agency to stop anyone re-using the it for another horse.

The agency which issues the passports is following up with eBay about the incident.
