Ottawa, ON—Para-Equestrian Canada and Perry Transport Ltd. are pleased to announce that Canadian Paralympian Lauren Barwick of Aldergrove, BC will be performing a Para-Dressage demonstration to music at this year’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, ON on Saturday November 6th, 2010 at 2:25pm in the main arena.

The performance comes shortly after returning from the World Equestrian Games where Barwick was selected as Canada’s flag bearer opening ceremonies, and secured Canada’s highest Para-Dressage results, including two fourth place finishes with her 2008 Paralympic partner Maile, a 16-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare.

“It is a great opportunity to be able to represent my sport of Para-Dressage at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. I hope people take the opportunity to come and see just some of what the Para rider is capable of,” remarked Barwick, who had hoped to be able to perform her Beijing Gold medal Freestyle ride on Maile; however, the mare was unable to make the trip. “I plan to ride a freestyle on my leased horse L'Amistad 22 owned by Lori Garlough, and then bring my Hungarian mare Cayenne into the ring and do a liberty demonstration with her and L'Amistad 22.”

Barwick will also be doing a demonstration at the Ontario Equestrian Federation Spirit of the Horse ring on November 6th at 10 a.m. For more details on the Spirit of the Horse ring, which is located in Hall A of the Exhibition Place, please visit www.horse.on.ca. She will also be signing autographs at the Equine Canada booth located beside the Spirit of the Horse Ring at 5:30 p.m. on the same day.

Barwick has represented Canada at a number of international competitions—most notably at the 2008 Paralympic Games where she secured individual gold and individual silver medals. Barwick is not only Canada’s most successful Para-Equestrian athlete in history, but also a powerful ambassador for Para-Equestrian sport.

“The opportunity to have Lauren riding at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Horse Show is quite a break through, and it is a great opportunity to showcase our 2008 Paralympic individual gold and silver medalist and our sport at such a large venue,” said Elizabeth Robinson, chair of the High Performance committee of Para-Equestrian Canada.

The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is the world’s largest indoor agricultural and international equestrian competition. The Royal draws more than 300,000 visitors to the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto annually to see thousands of unique entries from elite Canadian and International breeders, growers and exhibitors, over 4,500 large and small animals, shows, activities, shopping, dining and The Royal Horse Show.
