SAUGERTIES, NY (August 2, 2010) -- Olympian Margie Engle and Indigo, owned by Gladewinds Farm Inc., captured the $75,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, on Sunday, marking the fourth Grand Prix victory for Engle this year in the Strongid® C 2X Stadium at HITS Saugerties.

The duo has dominated the summer series landscape at HITS-on-the-Hudson with a win in the $25,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, on Friday, July 23, and a second-place finish in last Sunday's $50,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health.

"It was a very nice course," said Engle. "It had a lot of technical options and many lines rode difficult, especially the water line."

Engle, of Wellington, Florida, and Indigo were one of 29 horse-and-rider combinations to take the field on a course designed by Danny Foster, of Milton, Ontario, Canada, which saw just five pairs advance to the jump-off.

"He's [Indigo] been super," commented Engle. "He's very smart on fixing things up."

Foster's first-round course had a time allowed of 86 seconds and featured 14 efforts, including three double combinations and a water jump. Laura Bowery-Falco, of Southhampton, New York, got things started riding Epir, owned by The Epir Group. The pair had a rail down on the second-to-last fence and suffered a time fault for a total of five faults, which ultimately put them in eleventh place.

Two trips later, the dominant team of Tracy Fenney, of Flower Mound, Texas, on MTM Timon, owned by MTM Farm, were the first to go clean and took the early lead.

The next clean round came two trips later from Candice King, of Wellington, Florida, and Toronto, owned by AAA Eq LLC, to force a jump-off.

The next 10 rounds failed to go clean, until Peter Leone, of Greenwich, Connecticut, on Select, owned by Lionshare Farm & Ger Poels Horses, joined Fenney and King in the jump-off.

By the end of the first round, Engle and Marie Hecart, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, aboard Myself De Breve, owned by Top Stallion, rounded out the returning group.

For the jump-off, Foster's course featured seven efforts and a time allowed of 55 seconds. First to show in the jump-off was Fenney on MTM Timon, who set the Great American Time To Beat at 44.982 seconds in the first double-clear effort.

Fenney held the lead as King and Toronto went next, and jumped clean in 45.494 seconds, which earned them fourth place and a check for $9,750.

Third to show was Leone and Select, who dropped two rails in the middle of the course for a total of eight jumping faults in 44.962 seconds. Leone finished fifth in the class with $4,500 in prize money.

Engle and Indigo were next to show and cruised through the course in a speedy 43.987 seconds to capture the lead with just one horse and rider combination left in the class.

"I knew Tracy [Fenney] was fast...she's always quick," said Engle. "I figured I had nothing to lose, so and I took a bit of a shot."

Returning last in the jump-off for a chance to take home the blue was Hecart and Myself De Breve, who raced through the course for the win. Their clear effort in 44.967 was a mere one second shy of Engle's time and the pair had to settle for a the second-place honors, while they pushed Fenney into third place.

Engle has competed in ten Grand Prix classes this year at HITS Saugerties and has earned a total of $51,750 in prize money won on her leading horse, Indigo, and she now sits comfortably in the top 10 at sixth place in the Pfizer Million Eligible Rider Rankings.

Fenney now sits in the number two spot in the Rankings with $86,700 in prize money won on MTM Timon and California's Guy Thomas, who has held the number two spot since March, now sits in third place. With just six qualifying Grand Prix classes remaining, the clock is starting to tick as High-Performance riders make their final push to become eligible for the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix which takes place in Saugerties, New York in just over a month from now.

Show jumping at HITS Saugerties continues this week with an exciting lineup of classes and events, including the $25,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, on Friday, August 6, the $10,000 Devoucoux Hunter Derby on Saturday, August 7, and the $125,000 Strongid® C 2X Stadium Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, on Sunday, August 8 to wrap up a successful summer series before the road to the Pfizer Million returns to HITS Culpeper starting on Wednesday, August 18.
