On Tuesday, some 30 horses, including a number of young foals, were discovered dead in a  pasture near the Piikani reserve in Southern Alberta.   RCMP and SPCA  investigators could find no obvious cause of death for the apparently healthy animals.

The animals were found along a fence line on top of a hill.  Authorities speculated that the weather, snow and wind, might have been a major factor leading to the deaths.

A veterinarian was expected to examine the remains.

It was not known who owns the horses, but it appears unlikely that neglect or mistreatment was a factor.

Were these recent deaths or have they been there for a while when the weather was worse?
If these are recent deaths, what have the weather conditions been in Alberta in early May to cause the death of these horses?
Were there other horses from this herd or pasture still alive or did they all die? If this is a reserve, are these wild horses?

So sad~~~
This just happened. One thought was that severe weather caused a stampede.
