A Shetland pony stallion was terribly injured after being dragged behind a brown Holden Commodore in Queensland, Australia, on Christmas day.
The pony sustained major scrapes and wounds on his feet, legs, and chest where he had fallen as the driver drove down the road. When witnesses intervened, the two men in the car dropped the lead rope and drove away.
The pony's injuries were so severe and he was in so much pain, the treating veterinarian considered euthanasia. He has been moved to Brisbane for further treatment and it is hoped he will survive.
The RSPCA does not know who owns the pony, nor the identity of the men in the car. Authorities are requesting help from the public. The number to call is 1300 852 188.
