Queensland RSPCA has put out the following statement:

Like so many other areas of Queensland, the RSPCA Qld Shelter at Fairfield (Western suburbs of Brisbane) was severely damaged by the recent floods.

Thanks to quick thinking staff and equally quick acting Foster Carers, all animals were safely and swiftly evacuated before their kennels, catteries and farmyard became engulfed by water.

Due to the volume and depth of this water (over two metres (six ft) in some parts) extensive damage was caused to the shelter forcing Queensland's leading animal welfare charity to cease operation while the massive undertaking of clean up and recovery continues.

The RSPCA is exempt from disaster relief funds offered to other charities that assist human needs. This makes the RSPCA entirely reliant on the generosity of the Australian (and International!) community to help us get back onto our feet, open our doors and continue to help the 42,000 animals who rely on us each year.

How can you help?

By making a donation to RSPCA's Flood Recovery Appeal you can help RSPCA Qld rebuild, refurnish and recover from the devastation that has completely wiped out several buildings, equipment and supplies at the Fairfield shelter.

While all donations are greatly appreciated, at this stage of the recovery process, donations of funds (as opposed to goods and services) are needed the most.

In order to get the shelter operational, it is estimated that it will cost hundreds of thousands to help rebuild and purchase infrastructure, equipment and supplies. An additional $400,000 is needed to help rebuild and refit the Veterinary and Desex Clinic, both of which lost everything.

To help, check the RSPCA Qld Donations page.

All donations will go directly towards rebuilding, refurbishment and purchase of essential items.
