CLINICIANS

JOHN LYONS Internationally famous horseman John Lyons will be the featured clinician at the Grand Opening of the Georgetown Equine Expo on Friday September 24. Lyon has singlehandedly made significant changes in the horse industry over the past 30 years. He has promoted both kind treatment of horses and the safety of horse and rider through hundreds of national and international clinics, expos, symposiums, and demonstrations. Along with his son, Josh, he has developed a unique “Trainer Certification Program” that has yielded more than 300 certified professional trainers all over world. Their techniques have influenced every horse discipline and every breed. Lyons will demonstrate his training methods in a two-hour interactive session on Sept. 24th (4 pm – 6 pm) in the Expo’s Buffalo TC arena. Following the class, Lyons will also participate in the premier performance of the Buffalo TC Wild West Adventure Show, which begins at 7 pm.

DR LEW STERRETT, author of Life Lessons From a Horse Whisperer (Monarch) is a trainer and true horse whisperer. Sterrett has used patience and a firm but gentle hand to earn the trust of more than 3,500 horses throughout his career. Sterrett is also the executive director of the Miracle Mountain Ranch near Erie, PA. He is a licensed pastor and a certified family counselor through the United Association of Christian Counselors. He will be providing daily clinics Sept. 26 – Oct. 10 (4 pm -6 pm) in the Buffalo TC arena.

CHRIS BOHENEK According to Chris Bohenek, humans cause problems, not horses. It took him 15 years working with horses and cattle to make that discovery, and now his knowledge is our gain. Bohenek’s teachings, clinics, and demonstrations – emphasizing his philosophy of “shaping the will without breaking the spirit” and his “core balance” training – has helped to create a new generation of horseman, one better educated and prepared to work with their equine partners. “My belief in the teaching of horses is the path of least resistance cultivates the most growth and reward,” says the Montana-based Bohenek. On Sept 24 - Oct. 5 Bohenek will work daily (2:45 pm - 4 pm) with a 2-year-old Appaloosa colt using this “Vaquero Style” of horsemanship/cowmanship in the Buffalo TC Arena.

JACK LIESER is a horse trainer and clinician based in central Texas. He has studied both classical and natural horsemanship for the past 18 years and has developed his own style of training that works to create a solid foundation “lightness” in the horse. Recently, Lieser has begun working with the Nokota horses of North Dakota and is now determined to spread the word about this versatile, athletic, and historic breed. Come join him Oct. 5-9 from (2:45 pm - 4 pm) in the Buffalo TC Arena for a look at this wonderful horse of the Northern Plains.

CINDY BRANHAM has a long list of accolades when it comes to her career as a horse trainer, but there is one bullet on her resume that stands apart: Branham comes with the John Lyons seal of approval. A 2003 graduate of Lyons’ Certification Program, the Kansas-based Branham is now considered one of the country’s top hands-on clinicians. She is renowned for her work with wild Mustangs and for her extraordinary people skills. “One of our goals is to educate people to build a trusting partnership with their horses,” she says. “We want to teach people how to better understand and communicate with them.” On Sept 26 - Oct 4 Branham will be starting an older Dutch Harness mare using her proven “Extreme Makeover Training Program” at 12 pm daily in the Buffalo TC Arena (no clinic Sept. 25).

ROBERT LAWSON is the owner and head trainer of Stoner Ridge Farm in Paris, KY. Over the last 20 years he has developed his own unique style of breaking and training the Gait horse. His methods have not only produced international and World Grand Champions in conformation and under saddle classes but also many versatile trail companions as well. Beginning on Sept. 29th, Lawson will be starting a young colt using his Foundation First Rocky Mountain TrainingTM program. He will be working with the colt on Sept. 29 and then again on Oct. 1 continuing through Oct. 10 (1:30 pm - 2:45 pm) in the Buffalo TC Arena.

SPEAKERS

RANDI THOMPSON Even before Randi Thompson became a Horse and Rider Awareness trainer, she had, as they say, done it all: barrel racing, western pleasure, saddle seat, hunter-jumpers, dressage. A graduate of the Meredith Manor School of International Horsemanship, Thompson combined her love of horses with her vast knowledge of different disciplines to develop her nationally recognized “Horse and Rider Awareness” program designed to help riders of all levels connect with horses quickly and safely using tools of balance, communication, and emotional control. Thompson is now known as a “trainer’s trainer,” teaching clinicians and instructors of all breeds and styles of riding. Randi will be one of the daily speakers at the Expo’s Schoolhouse Theater. TOM SEAY, the executive producer and host of RFD-TV’s Best of America by Horseback, knows a lot about being on the road. In addition to his show on RFD-TV he has owned and operated three cable TV stations during the infancy of the cable industry and has hosted, directed, and produced television programming focusing on outdoor sports for 12 years. In between, Seay is a full-time farmer in his home base of Virginia. Seay and CEO to Best of America by Horseback Mark Laney join the Georgetown Equine Expo. Seay and Laney will be the Grand Marshalls of the Festival of the Horse Parade and will be speaking at the GEE’s Schoolhouse Theater Oct. 1 – 3rd. Check the online schedule for exact times.
