Laura Bechtolsheimer, who has been the truly shining star of these games, has put in another polished, powerful and expressive performance on the exceptional Mistral Hojris. Their music, which ranged from surfing songs to bouncy guitar tunes, suited the horse well.
They had a small bobble in one of the piaffe transitions, but otherwise it was an accurate test. They scored a well-deserved 85.35.
Meanwhile, Isabell Werth's score has been corrected to 80.0% even.
The next pair was Spain's Juan Manuel Munoz Diaz riding the PRE stallion Fuego XII who have also had a spectacular competition. His ride, to appropriately latin music, featured a line of one handed tempi changes in perfect time with the music. He ended with a long line of passage, again one-handed, to a standing ovation from the crowd which sent Fuego bouncing a bit which Munoz Diaz was ecstatic with pride for his horse. He was scored 81.450 which was not enough according to the crowd.
Then it was Edward Gal and Totilas' turn. It took a little while for the crowd to calm down from their disapproval of Munoz Diaz's score. Expectations were extremely high and even with a couple of bobbles (a break into the canter from extended trot), he still pulled out a 91.80% to launch well into the lead. There was absolute silence even with the packed stadium as they waited for the score.
Steffen Peters with Ravel had to follow Gal and even with the enthusiastic welcome from the home crowd, the tension was palpable. Peters used his Rolling Stones music which suits Ravel well. His score of 84.90 put them into the Bronze medal position.
Imke Schellekens-Bartels and Hunter Douglas Sunrise finished the evening with an 82.10% and fourth place.
