Isabell Werth rode right to the top of the international classes at the Stuttgart German Masters this weekend. She won three of the classes and took second in the fourth. In addition, she was awarded the Otto Lörke Prize for outstanding performance by one of the younger horses she has brought along to top level sport, El Santo NRW, on which she won the Grand Prix Special at Stuttgart. This is the ninth time she has been honored with the Otto Lörke Prize.

In the FEI CDI5* competition, Werth rode Satchmo to victory in both the Grand Prix for Kur, and in the Freestyle class as well. In both classes, Ulla Salzegeber took second place with Herzruf’s Erbe and Hubertus Schmidt earned the third spot with Dark Diamond. Catherine Haddad of the U.S. placed fourth in the Grand Prix and sixth in the Freestyle.

In the Grand Prix for the Special, Victoria Max-Theurer rode Augustin OLD to the top spot with a 75.149%, while Werth and El Santo earned second place with a 74.851%. Edward Gal slotted into third riding Sisther de Jeu to a score of 73.234%.

In the Special, Werth switched places with Max-Theurer who had to settle for the runner-up spot. Gal and Sisther de Jeu held on to third place by a comfortable margin.

Other News:
It was just last year that Gal and Totilas won the Stuttgart Freestyle with an 87.8% score. Since the recent sale of Totilas, the identity of his new rider has been a topic of great speculation; it is no surprise that there was some news on the subject at this year's show. There was a report in the US press that Edward Gal told German media he might change nationality to regain the ride on Totilas  (http://horsehealth.blogs.equisearch.com). However, Gal later clarified the comment on a Dutch equestrian website saying that in the first instance, he has not been asked by Paul Schockemöhle and therefore had not considered the possibility before, but also he has other horses and owners to consider (http://www.horses.nl/dressuur/nieuws/). In addition, the www.horses.nl site reports that Shockemöhle reached an agreement with a rider at the Stuttgart Masters show, and will announce the name in an upcoming press conference.
