Hi,
I have a dressage horse who I occasionally jump. He is 16.3 with a big stride. What distance should I put between two cavalletti for a bounce? For one stride? What distance for two cantering poles? Also, any ideas for a VERY basic gymnastic program, as I am only comfortable jumping very low fences. Thanks!!

Barbara,
Basic gymnastics, I would set up 3 or 4 ground poles about 4ft. 6in. apart (most horses have a 4'6" trot stride) followed by an X that is about 9 ft. from the last pole. Trot in/canter out and do this until you can do it smoothly. Then you can add from there. Place a vertical about 18 feet from the X for a one stride. If you want to add a second vertical, set it 20-21 feet from the first. If you want to set a bounce at a canter, set them 7-8' away and 14-16' away for a one stride. This may vary depending on exactly how big your horse's stride is, but this is a general guide. Hope it helps.
Thanks Jennifer, that's really clear advice. I'll see how I do!
Good luck.
