i also said the wrong camera i have a Fujifilm finepix s5800

thank you

ok so your camera manual is on line...it can take a little bit to load but in case you dont have it...here it is fujifilm finepix camera manual if you look on page 54 of the manual...you will see the "portrait" setting (this will sort of blur the background) and other settings...but it has really useful information here to use your camera...starting from page like 30 in the manual...you may need to ask your parents if you are not sure on some of it but it is mostly easy to understand...has helpful hints and you have a great camera to learn on...

now for some good info 21 Settings, Techniques and Rules All New Camera Owners Should Know and for blurry backgrounds without using the "portrait setting" on your camera you will need to know from the manual how to set the aperture (f stop) you will use a large aperture(which is sort of backwards in the f stops as the larger the aperture is the smaller the number of the f stop so smaller number...more shallow the part that will be in focus) here is a little something on it...this site is good has a tab for beginners you can find a ton of stuff and even some articles for kids using camera hints....here is the one article ..How to Get Shallow Depth of Field in Your Digital Photos and one on kids hints....13 Lessons to Teach Your Child About Digital Photography

this is a bunch of stuff you can look through for beginners...you may need to ask your parents for some help understanding some of it....I have used a lot of this to teach 4-H kids how to take good pics they were from about your age on up to 18yrs. Just takes a lot of experimenting and trying to take the same pic many different ways....if you can view your photos on a tv or a computer so you can see them bigger it will make it easier for you to see what you like....if you are in the USA you may also ask your parents about looking into 4-H as they not only have horse programs and other animals but they also have photography clubs as well....your local county extension office can help you find a club

Here is the whole menu for beginners with lots of things to look at...I myself signed up for the free emails...so I can try new things...or try to make my pics better...Digital Photography Tips for Beginners hopefully this will help you to take pics..and get the kind of shots you like....here are a couple of shots that I have used just my portrait setting on my camera so the depth of field is shallow...just some different things to remember is what you want in focus too...the dog and horse shot I was taking pics of Buddy's under jaw as I like the markings but the dog was watching so I went ahead and took this shot too...I like the way the horse is watching the dog and the dog is watching the horse...I did a few of them but liked this one the best as the focus is not the horse so you notice more he is watching the dog where it is already easy to see the dog is watching the horse..so I personally liked the dog blurred rather than the horse and didnt like it when they were both in focus (just used the landscape setting) anyway and then Jack the red border collie this shows the blurred background of the portrait setting.on my camera I like the lighting in this pic......the fun of pics is trying to express yourself and show the world how you see things...

had to delete my message and redo the link...as it went to my email and not the photo school...silly me...now it works right..(I also just recopied the message too....)...and I will find a link that will help you on the "blurry" background settings too..your camera may have a "portrait setting" that will do it...but if you can also manually set your camera I will find a good explanation for you so you can try it...also if you have your camera manual that will help you know where to set things too..

Those are great pics....I happen to like pretty head shots and "character" head shots of horses....You have your subjects clear in all three photos...always good to not have the interest dead center...there is like a rule (which rules are made to be broken) so like the if you divide your photo into thirds the biggest interest should lay in one of those sections...and to me you have done that....also watch your lighting...the lighting in the slide pic is super for the shot...and the interest with the sunburst fence and the childs hands up in the air just go really well together...the horse shots the light is not harsh ..slightly overcast days or overcast days are kinda not so bad for us photogs! But I would say try experimenting with your lighting...morning noon and evening and hitting the subject from different angles...on your horse pics you might of tried the portrait setting...that will make the focus on the horses and the back ground will not be as sharp which makes your supject not compete with things in the background...like the paint or pinto-the background looks great and goes well with the character and view of the horse-but the white horse might look better if the background was a bit blurred as you would not have as strong of line where the barn door is that leads into his ear....would be softer and the attention would be on the horses face and the angle he is at...

I think you are doing awesome and as long as you have a good camera...then just try experimenting...I have a site I go to sometimes will post it -some of it is advanced but some is really easy...and helpful...

trying to know what your camera can do is really really helpful too...sounds like you have a good one and can do alot with it...I think you will have a blast!

OK so I am sending this link that actually talks about the rule of thirds...and there is a ton more of different things you can do a bunch for free....they do want you to buy stuff sometimes but do not do that unless it is something your parents do for you...have them check out the link first but I have used it for several years with no issues. I can go and look up ideas to do or to learn stuff like how to take better night time pics or taking pics of pets or portraits or special effects- just all kinds of digital info ....so check it out and have fun Digital Photography School
