A big thank you to everyone who braved the weather conditions last night and made it out to Oakcrest for this great evening. Christilot reviewed the elements of the classical training pyramid as they related to working with a young horse, a horse in its prime and an older horse, giving everyone some perspective and frame of reference on what is appropriate at these stages of a horse's training.

The desserts sponsored by Martin York of York Saddlery and Harness were fabulous -- thanks, Martin!!; Pony Up Equestrian donated beautiful garment bags to our demo riders -- thank you, Kim!; and many thanks to The Extra Hand Staffing services for donating a gift certificate to Oakcrest in appreciation for the use of the facility.

A huge thank you also to our fantastic volunteers who did such a great job setting things up and making it run like clockwork. You're a great bunch of dressage people and we couldn't do it without you!!!

If you missed this great evening, keep your eyes open for the next one ... coming soon ...

Cheerz!

These included: Martin York (York Saddlery and Harness, Schomberg, who also sponsored dessert); Meredith Kerrigan (Bowen Therapy sessions); Barbara Evans Equine Massage Therapy; HorseSmart International; Omega Alpha Pharmaceutical; The Extra Hand; and Hilary Balmer. It was a great evening with a great crowd. :-) And a special thanks to all our volunteers -- your dedication makes these evenings possible.

The weekend clinic with Chris Irwin was a great success. Lots of people left with information about communicating with the horse that they didn't know they needed to know. I think that is the beauty of Chris' message ... that it gets to the root cause of our communication challenges with our horses before the saddle even goes on. Learning to speak the language of the horse and respecting their needs from day one is no different, in my opinion, than learning the language of someone from a foreign country and respecting their customs. The sad thing is that so many of us remain ignorant of how we effect our horses at the very basic level of communication they fully understand and interpret every moment we are in their space -- body language. Chris' presentation this past weekend was a wonderful reminder to us all that with horses, as in every other aspect of life, actions speak louder than words.

Chris Irwin gave an amazing presentation this evening. Such a marvel to watch him work his magic and to always learn something new. Our thanks to all who attended and supported this event. And thank you to our sponsors ... Omega Alpha Pharmaceutical, York Saddlery and Harness and North York Farmers. Also, we'd like to thank Chris for donating a book and a video to our door prize draw, and The Roving Chef for a lovely array of refreshment, and our willing volunteers who helped to make this evening such a success.

All in all it was a great evening.
