This is Dusty, a galiceno gelding.  He was 15 yo before he was gelded. He is from the Paladin Grande bloodline out of Miss Wildfire.  He is nearing his 20th year now and just as beautiful as ever. He appears jet black but is actually showing some signs of roan, just not very strongly.  His dam was a blue roan and his sire a jet black stallion.  The stallion pictured on our avatar is Dusty's only known get, sired the night before he was gelded.  Dusty is around 13.1 hh and about 650lbs would be my guess.  He is a little tall and slighter built than some, but all alpha male attitude with the other horses.  He is very affectionate with us and easy to catch.  These little horses just love people and attention.  Even the shyest Galicenos will approach to see what/who you are and if you have a treat.

Did you know that when these horses were imported, they had been captured in the wild and brought back here for youth horses? In the early 1990s there was a Galiceno in California that was doing eventing, Heidi shows some of hers in English classes in Florida, Mr Brinkman's Choppolene was show in English by Millie right after she got him.  Most of these horses have been shown more in Western classes such as barrel racing, reining, cutting, poles, ect. They excel in timed or speed events as well as technical events.  Perfectly sized for the young rider that is too small for a large horse, but ready to step up from their small pony to a faster, bolder small horse. The horse pictured next to our group name is Spirit. He has Top Star and Paladin Grande bloodlines. He is black, but shows a mild roan effect.  Basically he has white hairs scattered sparsely throughout his coat.  His grand dam(sires dam) was a blue roan.  His dams full sister is a red roan and full brother is a dun roan.  All solid colors are accepted except albino and perlino.  Paints are also not accepted.  Bay and sorrel are common as well as the dun/buckskin. These horses are agile with sharp minds and big hearts.

Here are a couple of links to help folks get familiar with our horses. This is a breed website.  There are pics of horses that belong to the folks at Galicenos of Suwannee. Take note of the color variety available.  Their bloodlines go back to top notch stallions within 2 gens.  NDs Winfire, rest his soul is Diamonte's sire and Top Star is Kid Sunday's sire.

We went down and measured the vast majority of our herd for height and weight.  Our average was 13.1 hh and our tallest pure Galiceno was 14.0 hh.  Our smallest two were 11.3hh.  They are two year olds and have been slow growing with the shortage of good grazing.  Suwannee Storm measured in at 12.1 hh.  He is a long yearling now.  He has the heaviest coat of all.  You can't even see the shape of his legs anymore. Guess his body was in panic mode after leaving Florida and he over compensated when he put on his winter jammies, lol!

I am trying to get my friends that are breeders to join to help me.  I talk about galicenos everywhere I go.  I do need to sit down and type up some more info from the books that I have.  A breed standard would not be bad to include.  Thank you for your interest.  I have several pics of the galicenos on my profile if you would like to take a look.  We have them in all age ranges.

Welcome to Galiceno lovers group. These Galicneos are small spanish type horses that were brought over by H. Cortez during his quest for El Dorado.  They are gaited, sturdy, and have tons of heart and speed.  They average between 11 and 13 hh and can carry a grown man all day.  They have natural cow sense and are very brave.  They make a great youth horse in that they are the right size and temperment while having the speed and agility to compete against the big horses in any event.  They are known to compete in playdays, barrel racing, ple bending, reining, cutting, hunter, dressage, and eventing.
