My horses also think that whips are for swatting flies, not hitting horses with... Che points flies out if he is on crossties, and expects you to kill them, he loves real fly swaters, and will hold body parts out for you to hit, Tattoo watched him and is starting to do the same thing, funny as heck.  When Joe shoes them we stand there and swat flies with the swatter or whip, and the horses think it great sport.  We don't use fly repellent anymore as Che's immune system is poor (due to heavy metal poiosoning as a two year old) so we improvise, also left to his own devices he will tear a heavy winter cover in no time flat, so you can imagine what happens to light fly sheets... we ahve a very heavy 180.00 one that he wears but never loose!!! They both have fly masks, and you can barely get Che to leave the barn without it if he thinks he is going to the paddock, and it has to have ears too, or he goes off his head.
