I work in a feedyard and we go thru 66 gates on an easy day. I know exactly what your horse did, my ponies get impatient w/ some of the sticky gates too.

If this is new to you, looks like your doing great and having fun. Reminded me of a fun moment with my horse a couple of years ago. We were working at opening the gate and riding thru. I was having a hard time getting right to the gate to push it open but his head was at the exact right spot so he just stuck his head in and opened it wide to get thru.."i'll help"! Backing with no rein looks like a good task for us to work on. Keep up the fun work.
