Yes, this weather is unusual. Seems people complain about the weather no matter what they are getting. I agree with you we need some appropriate weather to kill off the germs and diseases.
I did not call the vert. I have two more experienced friends  that pretty much had the same ideas what to do so I went for their suggestions and am keeping a good eye on it. Also he seems real contented and is using his leg well...very little lameness.. Gave him agood rub down massage last night. Still want to take a beginners course for that.. I got a couple massage books and just have not gotten into them well. Cash was very happy and relaxed with what I was able to do for him & that relaxes me. Horses are just sooooo good for my soul!

And I try to return the favor.

We got some snow yesterday, the most this winter, 8 cm (whatever that is, I still work in inches and feet) nothing like we used to get many years ago. The ones who aren't used to Canadian winters complain so much about it. Today now its going to get +7 and melt again, then be muddy, yuck. Where is our cold? We need to kill of the germs and diseases.

I'm sorry to hear about Cash, sure hope he is feeling better before you go on vacation.

Did you have to call the vet?

I would be the same as you if Cooper was injured. I don't know much about what to do and would have to get help from other more knowledgeable horse people.

Well it makes me feel better to know Cash is not the only one shedding. I think he has less coat then usual too.

WEather had definitely been strange.

Took Cash to a Parelli fun day today but we couldn't play. Got there and he has a little blood in his footprints to the arena. My first reaction was he did it in the hauling trailer but after some thought, I think he was hurt before we ever left our barn. He didn't come to be when I arrived but I thought it was cause he hadn't been outside very long and wanted to eat more of his breakfast. He was standing further then usual away from the others eatting which was not common. When I started to bring him to the barn, he would not move at first and then he came but slow and hesitant...still thought it was not wanting to leave his food. When we walked down the cement aisle in the barn his footsteps didn't sound exactly right...I thought it was cause of snow on/in his feet. He didn't want to get in the trailer...really didn't want to and even put up a little fuss but then got in...again unusual. Go to unload him and there is a tiny bit of blood in his footprints in the fresh snow. Get him inside where I can look at him better and he has blood coming from where his hoof and hairline meet and then another 2 in. line on his upper leg muscle area where he's oozing watery blood. I cleaned it as best I could with some warm water and then put some Ventricin on it and gave him some bute. It oozed all day and into the evening so I put some salve antibiotic type stuff on it to try to stop it from bleeding down his leg. He pretty sore and it's hard to get him to walk much. So I am a bit anxious and a little worried but trying to not let my negative worried click in when he will probably be fine. If I don't feel better in the morning about things, I will give the vet a call. Doesn't help I leave on vacation in a couple days. There is one lady at the barn that I trust and know she knows alot more then me but emotionally ...I DONT WANT to go when my baby is hurt. Best guess is one of the horses kicked or bit him over the best hay pile in the morning and maybe as he quickly tried to get away his foot might have gotten cut a little on some of the ice. He did seem to like seeing all the other horses and watching them at the play day. But he did not want to get in the trailer to come home. I'm sure it hurt to put more weight on it to step up onto the step-up floor. He was really shaking when we got him in which about mad me cry and then when we went to get him out he was even more afraid so then I worried he might hurt himself or me cause I was up in the front which normally works just fine cause he just backs out with no problem. After I got some hay in him and checked him over better with a flashlight he seemed contented but ......as you can see I'm not feeling very contented.
And it's time to go to bed soooo

Take care! Shirley

Cooper has been shedding too! He isn't blanketed and comes in at night where it is warmer. He hasn't gotten the nice thick coat that he had last year, but he was on outdoor board then. Only indoor board at the new place. The weather has been so weird, cold, then warm, then cold, poor animals don't know what season it is.

I started giving Cash some stuff called Horse Shine that looks about like this and sometimes when it's on his nose like this, he'll take his nose and run across the wall to get it off. Sure makes him drink more which is probably really good thru the cold. But, that brings up another thought...he is shedding already. What's up with that? He seems healthy. I don't think any of the other horses are shedding.
