He trots by choice everyday to jog, so it is not a stretch for him to trot under saddle. If he had not been taught to pace he is fast enough to be a trotter, but unfortunately he will switch to the pace most of the time free legged training. But his choice to trot at the jog is making it easy as pie to teach him to trot for ridding.
