Anni replied to Kathi's discussion 'Fear Factor'
Hi Kathi, I just wanted to share with you what has really helped me out. I had a bad fall where I broke my tail bone coming off of a spooky pony when I was 11. So although misbehavior and little tantrums don't bother me, spooks really tense me…

Anni replied to Dorothy McDonall's discussion 'So, tell me ... how many saddle pads do YOU own?'
Hmph, since I last responded to this thread I bought one more A/P pad, won one dressage pad (yay Back on Track!) and am planning on buying another dressage pad for my spiffy new dressage saddle (okay, it's used, but it's a Passier and I…

Just noticed the first season is coming out on DVD - I'm excited, because thus far I've only been able to watch the episodes in low-quality youtube format. Does anyone know if the format will work on US DVD players as well?

Anni replied to Carol Pullum's discussion 'The plight of wild horses'
What an unthought-out and under-funded mess the state of the BLM is... my biggest pet peeve with the BLM is the holding pens. My three year old mare was rounded up as a yearling, and sat in one of those pens for about a year and a half because no…

Anni replied to Lynsey Steinberg's discussion 'Books you Grew Up With (Saddle Club, Thoroughbred, etc)'
Thoroughbred was my favorite, but I did love Saddle Club as well. Heartland came out when I was in my adolescent years, but I read them anyway and enjoyed them. I also read the classic Marguerite Henry books and a few other stand alone novels whose…

You could look on UTube to see some different things people use to play with their horses. I know there is lots of them under Pat Parelli videos) I have viewed them to get ideas to keep my horse from getting bored. When he gets bored, he will find…

Anni replied to Anni's discussion 'Groundwork for Young Mare'
Hi Geoffrey, thanks for your response. I do agree that it can be a dangerous thing when people start assigning their emotions to horses - ie, he didn't respond correctly because he's mad at me, etc - and, not having much experience with…

I don't expect that everyone will agree, but I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that it's true. Most peoples perseption of sheep is that they are preety thick, but you can train a sheep to do any thing a horse can do . It's easier…

Really great answer. That's one of the most clear statements on how to train a horse I have read.

Geoffrey, you are right, horses do learn better when they are calm, and things are kept simple. But are you sure they aren't smarter than sheep?

A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
I'm a university student in Chicago currently figuring out what I want to do with my life. I'm a Psychology major in my second year. I'm really interested in equine therapy and also looking into school to become an equine vet tech. After riding hunter-jumper on and off for the past nine years, I've transitioned over to dressage, and hopefully one day eventing.
I own a wonderful 3 year old Mustang mare named Lily, and am chronicling our progress together in a blog: http://alittlefaith16.wordpress.com
