Thanks, Jackie, Love the website;  very useful;  your advice helps a lot;  I have a Morgan mare, as well, who gets no grain at all and has a grazing muzzle, as well, and she is in very good condition;  I think the Tennessee…

A horse doing only moderate exercise should be able to survive on good grass hay, pasture, and salt, and with some hays and pastures it may be a good idea to use trace mineral salt. Grain is safest for horses who WORK.  When my horse lived on…

Horse Nutrition

I know this topic could be discussed forever, but I'd like the opinion of any folks out there who care to respond on the topic of feeding grains vs. not feeding them. I recently brought a new horse home and she is a Tennessee Walker;  I have read that these horses can be prone to metabolic problems and I would like to keep her diet as simple as possible. She is at a good weight now, and only gets moderate exercise.  I would like to feed only good hay and pasture, but am getting lots of…See More

For sciatica, have you tried Aleve?  It will not make you drowsy, but it will help sooth the inflammation in your sciatic nerve.  It works great for me, and the sciatica is all but gone.  You can buy it over the counter.  Hope…

Hi, Cathy:   I've used grazing muzzles for years.  I use the Best Friend model, which stays on, doesn't require a halter, and stands up to quite a lot of abuse.  I've had very good luck using them not only on pasture…

Grazing Muzzles

Could anyone give me some advice on the use of grazing muzzles;  I have two mares, each with a different issue;  my elderly (29 year old) standardbred colics if she is put out on spring pasture too suddenly, but I don't have control of that;  my Morgan is just an easy keeper and she puts on way to much weight when she is out on the rich pasture at my barn;  both girls are out during the day and in at night;    I have been thinking about trying grazing muzzles for them this spring;  I would love…See More

Hello, I'm located on the coast of SC. My Cocoa is a mare! Sounds like you found a great horse. Don't you just love the rocky gait? Here are a few shots of Cocoa. She won the AOT Championship as a three year old at the horse park in Ky.

Hi! Where are you from? I bought a going on 5 year old gelding named Choco in March down in Kentucky. Could this be the same horse? He is an absolute darling and is a beautiful chocolate with flaxen mane and tale.

A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
I am a fairly new rider; I became a grandmother and decided, "It's now or never!", and I started taking riding lessons. That was 5 years ago and now I have two horses of my own; a 28 year old Standarbred mare named Bronwen (she is a sweety), and a 10 year old QH/Morgan cross. There's something new to learn every day and my little granddaughter likes the horses, too!
Do you have any pets?
I have a cat and two dogs; one is a Jack Russell and the other is an Alaskan Malmute
