Nutrition for draft cross/draft

I ride a Percheron/thoroughbred cross. We are competiting in dressage, and she is the best horse. I have heard conflicting opionions on the best thing to feed draft/draft crosses. In particular I have heard that they do better on only hay. However I recently moved her to our house from the barn I bought her from and started her on a regimen of hay and grain. She used to only get hay but she was losing some weight over the winter and seemed sluggish. Thanks, Chloe
