Heather, sorry for the long delay but I have been away. To answer your question I would have to say that first of all a conservative trim would be best. That is to say, leave the sole and frog pretty much as is. If the wall can be left a little longer without chipping excessivley that would be great. Paint sole with venice terpenine to toughen it or use a product by Vettec called Sole-Guard after trimming. It will stay in the cup of the hoof and add extra protection. Good luck and stay in touch. cool! Ya it was very smooth, and different from what i was use to, did you get then from the Ontario Standerdbred Adoption Society?
I always look there, there use to be one there named Table of Flowers and i was going to get her, but she was gone when i looked again:(
cool, ya where i used to take lessons i rode this HUGE standerdbred there names Bionic Balet and i rode him every lesson, he was the sweetest horse ever and even though i was a tiny tooth pick on him he looked after me, and when i cantered him my fist time it felt like i was floting on a cloud, it was the smoothest canter i've ever done in my hole life! He won alot of big races, he was a pacer so every time i'd ask him to canter he do 2 strides of his pace and then canter, it was really cool!
