"My goodness, this is the first that I have seen this post. It sounds like you and your horse have had quite a struggle. Well at least you have. You say that once you do get tacked up. and in the saddle that everything is hunky dory. So I am going to…"

"If you had his back and teeth checked by a vet and they have told you nothing is going on, I would get a second opinion. Sounds like evasion due to pain."

Tacking Tantrums for mature horse

My horse and I have been through some traumatic changes in the past. One included him colicing in a dressage barn in Southern California, that almost killed both of us. Since then I have moved across the country rehabbed him for a year and moved on again to go to school here in Washington. Where he has a wonderful, quiet barn, with out a insane work out schedule to give any one ulcers, he’s turned out all through the good weather, and up in a cozy stall for winter evenings. But in that…See More

A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
29/F Acupuncture student. Previous experience: began as a western pleasure rider as a child. At that time I was also exposed to gaited horses, and arabians. I have owned quarter horses only because in Arkansas at that age, this is what was available. Switched to hunters as a teenager, had a horse land on me on the back side of a jump and knock me out at 20, lead me to dressage, later got into low level eventing, we couldn't both afford to eat and progress. I have been a working student with a dressage barn in the past. I am an eventer at heart but it's time for me to enjoy the horse I am blessed with and finish grad school.
