10 Diet Tips to a Healthier You, Tip 3:

Add Vegetables to Your Day - Start by adding one more vegetable to your day until you reach more than 5 servings of fruit and vegetables per day. The adult recommendation from Canada’s Food Guide is 7-10 (7-8 servings for females and 8-10 servings for males) servings. Vegetables have a lot of nutrients and most are very low in calories. Eating a variety of colours will make sure you get a variety in nutrients because the different colours represent different nutrients. Green vegetables tend to have a lot of iron and calcium, orange vegetables tend to have a lot of Vitamin A and beta- carotene, etc. Vegetables are very easy to add to your
meals. Try shredded carrots in salads, pastas, rice, or mashed potatoes. Grind zucchini and add it to your sauces. Mix in broccoli with macaroni and cheese. Start with small amounts added into your meals to make sure you enjoy the taste. Use spices to enhance the flavour – I love Club House spices like the ‘Roasted Red Pepper and Garlic’ – I sprinkle it on everything from pasta to potatoes. Find a spice mixture you like and you can make any vegetable tasty!
