Hi Jane I have a Donnersong baby she is three now shes a beautiful mare and takes my breath away sometimes when she is larking about in the field yes she is sharp sometimes. But I am a first time breeder and I am learning to not get at her plenty of praise and she gets the idea. Strong personality moves like a lady!
I am really glad to hear that the BEF is supporting the breeding industry. I have seen some stunning horses breed by small breeders, but the cost is so great, they really need a really good way to promote their stock.
The quality of the horses now in the UK is so good, (especially compared with here...no offense to BC, it's just a lack of top quality mares, but there are some nice stallions here..Also a lack of coherent breeding pratices.)
I was looking for other horses by Donnersong to see what type of experiences people have had with their training. But I am glad to hear that the bloodline is generally doing well!
Hi Jane. Yes, this is the replacement for the British Horse Database but this time there is more co-operation from the breed societies & warmblood studbooks as well as the sports disciplines. It is all being co-ordinated through British Breeding - an offshoot of the BEF. They have also set up a futurity evaluation scheme which is proving very sucessful.
Hopefully this new momentum will really allow British breeders to showcase their horses & compete with germany & holland. We have great stallions in the UK, a fabulous TB breeding pool & the quality of the warmblood mare band is improving all the time. What we lack is a coherent strategy & effective promotion - hopefully NED will help rectify this!
I'm sure there is a 3rd full sibling of Donnersong on the circuit at the moment too, but I can't remember the name at the moment - sorry!
Christina, Hi, It's good to know what that his offspring are doing well. And I did not know that Donner Rhapsody was doing so well!
Is the equine database, taking over where the horse database left off do you know? (Storm and Diesel where on the database, I will go and have a look...)
I don't own one but there are a lot of progeny in the UK doing well on the national circuit. We are finally getting the National Equine Database off the ground here & if you go to www.bef.co.uk & follow the links you can join it & search for Donnersong, then his progeny & their results should be available.
His full sister Donner Rhapsody is now also an International GP horse & is owned & ridden by Anni McDonald-Hall.
