Day 8, Mossberg got out of his stall right before I was going to ride and ripped around the farm for about 15 minutes.  He was really fired up so I finally caught him and free lounged him until he started to calm down and focus.  After this, I brought him back out to groom and tack up.  After a little more lounging, I got on and we worked.  He did pretty well after all his shenanigans :)

Day 9 we lounged and did a lot of transitions of walk trot and some trot to canter.  The walk trots were getting very good and he was listening to my leg more.  I showed the video to my friend and trainer and they said he needs more umph   I agree but I know he can be explosive at times and I don't want him to kick into that high energy mode.  We rode in the bigger part of the arena today (just walk after we worked) and he did fine.  I had to get off and open thr round pen door so we could get to the bigger part, and I noticed that every time I mount he gets fired up and anxious.  This is understandable since he was a race horse and they mounted up and ran basically.  I wonder how we can break this, and I would love to be able to use a mounting block at some time lol.  Overall he did well.  Tomorrow I am going to see if I can push him more into the bridle without him freaking out and going bonkers.  Also noticed during his canter, he is flinging his head real high.  My friend said his head will come down eventually.  I have a german martingale that I am debating using.  I dont want to make too many changes at once and freak him out.   Ugh, I am becoming one of those horse owners that won't ever disturb their horse.  I have been tossed once by him, and it just makes me nervous.  We will see :)  I am on third shift this week, so it is difficult to ride.  I get so tired and end up trying to sleep all day when I am not at work.  I brought my riding clothes so hopefully when I get off, I will go straight to the barn to ride before I go home to bed.  At least this way it will keep Mossbergs schedule the same :)
