Wow this is scary! Push came to shove when it came to adopting my Standardbred so I had to take the plunge or let him go. So here I am with a new horse and no job! Am I crazy?

Anyway, he's home and his re-training is going to start once he's had some time to settle in. I was very impressed by how calmly he handled coming to a new barn and I think that bodes well for how he is going to handle all the other changes in his life that are coming his way.

I'm really looking forward to getting started with him and will keep everyone posted on our progress. I will post some photos once I figure out how to do it, and may even have a name for him at that time too.

Things are slow right now, too wet to really do anything. I will probably spend today doing my usual job search and then want to get started on a pastel portrait that's been hanging around for a while.
Will be busy working the next two weeks filling in for vacationers, but I usually finish early enough at this job to get up to the barn if the weather improves.
I'll keep you all posted.

You must be thrilled, a new horse and lots of training to be done. Congrats and will be looking forward to Monty updates.

Things have been going well with Monty. He settled in to the new barn very easily and is already out with the main herd.
Our first road ride went well and as usual he exhibited alot of curiosity but very little spookiness. He had no trouble going up the steep hill on our ride, but was unsure about how to negotiate his way back down. His hind end kept trying to overtake his front, but he did it.
Lots of head tossing and he dosen't understand what the bit is really for, so once the arena dries out a bit I will be starting on softening his mouth and changing his frame. We don't have a round pen so I'm trying to think of a way to fudge one in the arena so I can start of "join up". He also needs some lessons in respecting my space and just plain ground manners.
All in all he is a good boy and I know he will learn quickly. I'm really looking forward to the adventure!

Good luck with it and hope you have a fabulous time with him. Standardbreds are fabulous horses and learn quickly.
