I've just joined Barnmice and will be sharing posts from my new blog essentialequestrian.wordpress.com!
Today is the First Day of the Rest of My Life
Well, hello, Blogosphere! (Do people use that word anymore?) Either way, thanks for checking in! My story is a long one, but suffice it to say that yesterday, while watching a week-old filly frolicking in her stall (sooo cute!), I decided today (or, really, yesterday) is the first day of the rest of my life.
Horses are my passion and have been since I was about 8 or so. My journey to make horses a career began then and is finally getting started (we won't say exactly how long it's been, but a while!). Watching that filly, I decided, as a wise man told me (not once, but many times), "make it happen!"
So, you say, why a blog? Well, I enjoy writing and am (relatively) good at it. I journal quite a bit about my lessons and training anyway and take extensive notes during clinics. I felt this would be a good way to share my experiences and to get feedback and thoughts from the greater "horse community."
While my focus is dressage, I have a background in saddleseat and teach a variety of disciplines. What most appeals to me is the "classical" methodology, which, I understand, arises mixed feelings. To me, classical is, as Charles de Kunffy said at a recent clinic I attended, "respecting the horse for who he is as a horse" (this is paraphrased). My interpretation includes developing a relationship of respect and trust between horse and rider and always keeping in mind how much our horses give to us.
Not trying to get too ethereal here! My goal is to provide useful information and also to continue my never-ending quest to learn all there is to know about horses, riders, and training! Please leave comments and stay connected by following me on twitter @EssentialEq!
Until next time, keep it classical!
