So, we had the vet out to take a look at my little guy and make sure he was good to wean. And, since the farrier wanted some x-rays on his mom, we got them taken, no biggie...

Definite biggie. Her coffin bone has rotated more. She's barely lame. I think we're going to have to put her down, and it's just an appalling idea. She's 6 1/2. You think you get them through the worst of it and it will be okay. And now, we're back where we were 2 years ago. And then you think what if we hadn't bred her, did that make it worse? She came through the pregnancy with flying colours.

How do you say goodbye to a horse this young who you've had since she was a weanling?

I have no idea how to say good-bye. All I know is that you are doing the very best you can for your horse in a truly impossible situation. We're all right there with you. "Big hug". .

Yeah... I had one of those. Not fun. Kinda offish every once in a while, 2 yrs later dead lame on both fronts. We had to put him down too. He couldn't keep up w/ his pasture buddies any more. He was 7. His name was Fitch

Unfortunately, that's the only conclusion we can come to. We're fortunate that we can make that choice for our sweet little girl.

It's ugly as hell. She has had a full sole. Which the coffin bone is now close to coming through.

Thank you Allan. She had acute laminitis two and a half years ago, with 23 degrees rotation in the one foot. The foot doesn't grow well now. My guess is that the laminar bond is not very strong, which resulted in the rotation we now have. She was fine 6 months ago, so what precipitated this episode, we don't know. There is a tenotomy that can be done, but we have already decided that we will not proceed with that. It's heartbreaking that you just can't wave a magic wand and fix her.

And today, she trotted in for lunch sound. It's perplexing. We'll start weaning her baby and see how she progresses.

Thanks Jackie. I'm just in shock right now. I'm grateful she's left us a gorgeous little boy legacy.

I am so sorry about this news. It is always hard to let go of a horse in her youth
