I am starting this blog for one reason only. Because I feel like writing about my riding experiences, and suck at keeping a journal. That and hopefully some of you will get a laugh at my expense!

So, I had a lesson last night. I was saved by my instructor being absent and another instructor taking her place. Why was I saved? Because my instructor likes to push me and as soon as she sees a flaw she tells me to fix it, and she usually spots them right when they happen so I can't even realize there happening and fix them myself(ugh talk about bad luck). But it was good that I had this particular instructor for this lesson.

The lesson was called,
Operation 2-POINT.

So let me back track, I have been switched into a different lesson time so the ones I'm with have been working on different things. I was working on control, patterns, and awareness. These guys, had did a little of what I had been doing, but my lesson was more focused on general use due to one of the girls confidence issues. Now that i'm in this lesson I'm behind them. They already knew 2-Point, and I had to learn it.

It was hell on earth.

Why you might ask? You take a kid who has a good grasp on posting and is fine with that, her muscles are finally strong enough for that, and ask her to go into 2-Point. I fell. A lot.
Not off the horse mind you, I just fell from 2-point into the trot. I was fine in the walk but for some reason bad in the trot. Needless to say, I'm glad my lesson horse was a trooper.

There are many reasons why he's a trooper.

#1
He basically dozed as I fixed his bridle, piece by piece. Every time I thought I was finished, there was still something wrong. Yes I did try to put it back together off his head, but I just thought someone took the reins off and did up the nose piece and throatlatch. Nope, of course not. They basicly put the bridal in a knot(I could have killed them....grr hate camp kids),I had to undo every keeper, fix it and put it back together, while it was on the horses head. He took it like a pro.

Plus side, I now know how to put a bridal together!

#2
Whenever I fell out of 2-Point, he didn't seem to care that a few times I landed heavily in his saddle(most the time I caught myself and landed softly but sometimes, not possible).

#3
when I ditched my stir-ups for cool down, he didn't take off like I thought he was going to, he was high energy. He made me proud by staying at a slow relaxing walk.

Now back to 2-Point. I (eventually) was fine, then my instructor got me trotting over a pole on the ground between the jumping posts. That was fine. Then she made this tiny cross-rail that my horse was just going to trot over...I thought I was going to die.

So I'm trotting at this cross-rail and I'm thinking, I'm soooo going to fall(I never but still). Let me also say, I'm 5'7 and riding this stocky 14.2-3hh pony, not a good combo. Not cause he can't take me, but because I just feel tall. So my horse trots over the pole and I'm just like, OMG I am going to die. I am going to fall, or he is actually going to jump it. OMG.

I get over the cross-rail safely, with my horse trotting over it and I'm just like, I SURVIVED!

So then cool out time. The girls in my group are crazy. They go bareback. On sweaty horses. I thought about it, then just simply dropped my stir-ups. One of the girls dads was watching and told her that she is sitting on a towel in the back seat and is not sitting up front with him. The girls answer: But Daddy, it'll dry.

Anyway that's it for this week!

Take comfort. The two-point will come, your muscles just have to get used to it.
I've been riding over 40 years, and my teacher still gets after me! Perfection is a goal, not a reality for most of us. Do try to be perfect (it will come), good position can save you when all else falls apart, but realize it won't come immediately.
I do not recommend riding horses that are cooling out. They have done their work, let them relax and enjoy being with you. Besides, walking the horse dry will help prevent YOUR muscles from cramping up.
I am looking forward to future blogs on your adventures.
