My British Dressage magazine arrived just in time to give me some essential info on what is involved at London's Greenwich Park during the Equestrian events.  Here are some fascinating figures:

6 tonnes of horse manure per day is anticipated.

10,000 tonnes of arena surface, including warm up arenas and walk ways have been laid down on top of wooden decking that is placed on a steel frame supported by thousands of height-adjustable steel legs to allow for the undulating ground and to protect the historic park ground.

55 catering units will be at the park

More than 1000 toilets.

800 garbage cans

9 tonnes of refuse expected on dressage and show jumping days, 26 on cross-country days.

14 million meals will be served

10 million cups of tea

ALL food served on Olympic site will be served in compostable materials

0% of waste to landfull

2 mobile booster masts installed to cope with the additional demands on networks.

7 dressage judges' boxes specifically designed with 180 degree vistas due to lack of vertical supports.

3,500-4,000 volunteers will be working at the site helping with transport, security and assisting spectators.

Floral decorations include: 150 shrubs, 900 ferns, 7000 colored stems, 2000 flowering plants and 1000 square meters of turf.

4000 journalists have been accredited for the Games. 600 are expected at Greenwich.

Seating for more than 20,000 in the stadium.

1433 AD marks the birthdate of Greenwich Park, London's oldest park.

100 years since Dressage became an Olympic sport in 1912.

0 Olympic dressage medals won by Britain.  That may be about to change with this Olympics!
