I had a great weekend with the horses.  On Friday evening and Saturday morning, I managed to get Cole to canter some more in the arena.  That makes three arena rides in a row.  He still doesn’t get too far before he stops on his own, but I’m sure that will come in time.  I will try again, tonight, if I have the arena to myself.  On Saturday, after our schooling session, I rode him down to the river (which was too high) and back.  He was flawless.

Sunday, I skipped the arena entirely and rode Cole with my sister’s horse down to the river 3 times.  Cole has been difficult at times when I do multiple trips on the hill.  The first time, he’ll be good, and each time he will get worse.  He tends to try and rush.  He did try to trot down the hill on the second trip.  I made him stop and stand until he settled down and my sister caught up, but that was the only time he misbehaved.  The third trip was perfect.

I celebrated by taking Cruiser on the hill 3 times, too.  Of course, Cruiser was perfect—he has had way too much practice on the hill in his life.  I am hoping that next weekend the river will be crossable.  We will have my boyfriend’s horse to ride.  Nothing like 2 people with 4 horses instead of 3.
