May 1, 1912

On May 1, 1912 four young men placed their feet in the stirrups of saddles and rode into
history.  The Overland Westerners were a group of four men that were seeking
fame and fortune only to travel 20,000+ miles to have their dreams shattered,
and to head home without the glory they so longingly sought.  Can you imagine
what it was like to sit astride those horses, and think of the adventure that
stood before you?  Was it cool and brisk that morning that they left Shelton,
Washington on their voyage into history?  I am not sure what the weather was
like for them that morning, but they wanted to make a difference.  And I believe
they did.

I am planning on traveling as close as possible to their route,
but not for fame and fortune.  On May 1, 2012 I am placing my foot in the
stirrup of my saddle and riding to Olympia,  Washington.  This date will mark
the 100th anniversary of the original trip, and begin a new chapter in the
dreams of all horse men and women.  I am riding to raise funds and awareness for
equine rescues and epilepsy.  In 2002 my son was diagnosed with epilepsy, and
about that time I also rescued a gentle grey senior arabian mare.  She was so
very sweet and loved very much by my children and myself.  It is in their
tribute that I ride.  For the mare that taught my children not to fear horses,
and her amazing resilience to their antics.  Her heart of gold, and the love you
could see that she had for us.  My son is now in remission, but there is no cure
for epilepsy at this time.  There is much research that still needs to be done,
and I hope that the funds that I raise will help in the finding of a cure for
this horrific disease.  Please feel free to follow me, and I would enjoy reading
your comments.

Happy Trails....
