Thank you

I named the farm this because I have three children and they all played competitive hockey. The name has a nice ring to it I thought. Check out my website http://hattrickequine.yolasite.com/

Hello Jackie, thanks for the description of the US horse culture. Though i have only been here in Honduras for 2 years it seems like 20 and a reminder of the situation in the US is good. I am originally from western VA and have spent most of my life in FL, WY, CO and other states . All my previous work with horses has been in the US and was over 6 years ago so i am learning and relearning things here.

Honduran culture is directly influenced by movies and TV etc. Can you recommend any DVDs that may increase interest in developing a relationship with horses here. I think a film showing the possibilities and the performance from a good relationship with a horse. Any ideas?

Ohh sorry i did not answer your question. The students are 1st and 2nd year veterinarian students and also 3rd and forth year Agronomy students. The vet students are very dedicated to learning. It would be nice if someone like you could visit and tell about your life with horses.

Hello, I had some time today to look through this site a bit and i saw you had commented on allot of posts. This is nice to know that there is a group that will respond to question and ideas regarding horses. There are allot of cart horses in Honduras but not many here in this area. Here they use them for work (packing out dairy milk to the road, working cattle etc) or for events. The horses for events are gated and well kept. The work horses on the other hand are consider the same as an old hammer, use it until it breaks and then try to fix it or find another. I started teaching low stress handling of cattle (Dr Temple Grandin) and i had a great response but much more resistance with the horses from the macho men. The male and female students that i have been working with have responded well. They start with fear and no confidence and after the first day they leave with permanent smiles. So many students here want to safely ride a horse but the horses are so nervous from being abused. The phrase N Horsemanship is so over used i am not really sure what it means. I just do what makes sense and what works and I am always open to learning more from people and horses. Pretty amazing how dedicated you have been to riding and working with horses over the years. Are you riding this week?

Hi Jackie. Thank you for the words of encouragement. I also think we were meant for each other.
The Boerperd is a South African breed that has amazing stamina, strengh, patience and loyalty. They are short coupled and compact, seldom more than 16 hh.
I have always had a soft spot for any draught horse. I am a large lady and always feel they have the power needed to carry my extra weight.

Have a wonderful day and I am reading all your blogs. Hope I can pick up the horse lingo again, I feel like a absolute novice!

yes that is my goal to ride sidesaddle in the competition. the competition that takes place in a Chareada for women is called Escaramuza,Mexican drill team. We ride sidesaddle, in beautiful Adelita dresses or Charra(female horsewoman) outfits and you have to have a lot of courage. You are going full speed on a horse and if someone slows down or speeds up accidents can happen. We are a small group so we can't compete yet. We are only 4-5 girls(you need 8 to compete and to be federated. we are still working on it.) and many are beginning riders so we are still new. I have been around horses all my life and participated in western drill teams, so I have been asked to teach the girls more about riding and horsemanship. I love it. we our suppose to do a presentation at the Central Washington State Fair Grounds in September. Hopefully my dress will be ready.

Hi Jackie.  My daughter is 19 and we have shared a horse for the last 9 years.  We have always rode with the same coach.  I do dressage and never jump.  My daughter now does eventing so the extra dressage work for the horse is a bonus.  We have a scheduled private lesson each week and if my daughter is working I take the lesson.  If she is available to do the lesson, I book another one for myself.  I arrange my riding days around her work schedule as I work days and ride in the evening.  Sometimes one of us might have a busier work schedule and the other one picks up the slack in the riding.  When we purchased our current horse 3 years ago, I was concerned that we would not find another horse that worked for both of us, as eventing horses can be a bit much for me.  We were lucky enough to find a wonderful mare that is great for both of us.  She has a great personality and seems to know that I do not jump.  It has been a great experience to be able to share this sport together.
