Difference Between a Pace and a Stepping Pace

This video shows you the difference between a pace and a stepping pace. Neither are what we are looking for in a correct smooth gait, but it might help you in identifying what your horse is doing. A pace is characterized by both legs on one side of the horse lifting up and hitting the ground together. A stepping pace is the same except that the left hind leg hits the ground slightly before the left front leg.

This video is show a horse who is NOT gaiting correctly. This is only to show the difference between these gaits. A video will come later to show what a correct gait should look like.
