I ride at a reining stable where their horses work at lessons once their done their reining career and they live well into their 20s and 30s with no arthritis or even lameness 19/20 times. That's like saying yoga is bad for you. Reining, when done properly, is not harmful, just like any other equine sport. There are protective shoes and boots and hock protectors that a lot of ppl put on their horses during training to prevent any sort of injuries or complications that might occur in the short or long term.

So, I don't follow your logic, reining is bad because? Jumping is hard on joints, dressage is hard on muscles, racing is hard on joints and heart, rodeo, well let's not even go there.

Hey John, how can a sport that gradually diminishes the cartilage in the horse's joints and causes ringbone and arthritis become an FEI sport??? How do you reining people sleep at night knowing you're hurting the horses you supposedly love?
