I waited to long and let my body slip, then I had a heart attack. Now a heart surgery and angioplasty later, I have had my wakeup call. It is time to get my body back through exercise and diet. I hope to incorporate riding into my regime as well. It may not burn the most calories, but it is grat stress relief for me. I am dead serious this time, pun intended. Wish me luck and thanks for the inspiration.

If you are new to riding get lessons. If you already know how to ride, it is much safer to ride with an instructor until you get your muscles back. I had to get private lessons to accomodate my lack of stamina. Start slow. Work up slowly. Give your body sufficient time to build itself up.
Riding horses is great physical therapy, as is just about anything you do with the horse.
Enjoy yourself.

Lincoln B.

I know about letting your body slip and need to do exactly what you are doing before I have what you had. Now that I am over the fear from my fall, my horse is not very sound to ride. But I will tell you that riding took and kept inches off my middle, thighs & butt and kept legs strong and back tall. And YES you will burn calories. I used to trot a straight line down trails with my big gelding and I would keep going till I felt the burn in my legs from posting and then go past the burn and it felt GREAT! I miss it dearly and want to get back into it. I always believed you got aerobics and isometrics at the same time when you rode. I have to get my horse fit now before we can do anything.

GOOD LUCK!! I am so happy you chose horses to help with your physical therapy.
