Hello all.....my little mare got kicked while out in pasture 2 weeks ago. The swelling is located in her rear pastern. As the lesions on the outside were minor, and she was walking ok, I continued to put her out on pasture for 10 days, thinking that the movement would help bring the swelling down. I was cold hosing during this time, but there was no change at all.
A week ago, I had the vet out, and he did an ultra sound which showed that there was no tendon damage, but a good sized hematoma within the swelling. I've been wrapping at night, giving her bute, icing it, and she is now in a paddock. I am still seeing no change. I am supposed to be using DMSO as well, but the vet hasn't dropped it off yet....
Does it take longer for a hematoma to dissipate than just having swelling only? I just am not sure how long this might go on. The vet suggested ultra sound thereapy as well, but I can't afford it at this time.
