Show Jumping - Twomey in Top Ten for Second Leg of World Cup Show Jumping Final

CORK-born Billy Twomey produced a foot-perfect round with Sue Davies's 17 year-old mare Tinka's Serenade to finish eighth of the top 40 riders who qualified for the first round of the Longines FEI World Cup Final at Lyon in France tonight (Friday).

This puts the 37 year-old, who was Ireland's only rider to qualify for the final, in an advantageous position for the next three rounds of jumping, which finish on Easter Monday afternoon.

All 40 riders who appeared at Lyon tonight started on a zero score, and their performances over the next few days will be converted into faults, with the 30 best-placed riders qualifying for the penultimate round on Monday, and the top 20 then going forward to decide the World Cup winner later that day.

After tonight's opening round a smiling Twomey said of his mare: "I'm delighted with how she performed. I've put myself in the shake up and I hope we can continue with the good form."

Twomey and Tinka's Serenade will now compete in Saturday night's second round of the Final, which is a jump-off competition, and then have a day of rest before Monday's challenging two rounds that will decide the winner.
