Lexington, KY – Feb. 16, 2024 – In preparation for the 2024 National Horse Show, we are excited to announce several exciting changes to the Hunter Divisions effective at the show this fall.

• National Horse Show Hunter Classic: Increased prize money from $50,000 to $75,000. Classic will be open to the top four (4) horse-and-rider combinations based on Championship points (excluding models) from the professional hunter divisions. Class to be held on Wednesday afternoon, October 30, 2024 (pending USEF approval) 

• A new award will be presented this year to the manager of the horse that wins the $75,000 National Horse Show Hunter Classic

• Prize money in the Junior and Amateur Owner Hunter 3’3” divisions has been raised to $12,500.

• All Junior and Amateur Owner Hunter divisions: Increased the Stake class prize money from $5,000 to $7,500

• Reminder: The $10,000 Children's Hunter Classic and the $10,000 Adult Hunter Classic do not require qualifying points. Classes are filled on a first come first serve basis so enter early! The Classics will once again be held on Saturday of the first week of the National Horse Show

• New Hunter Qualifying Criteria: “Any horse applying for acceptance in a section must have shown in that section within the specified qualifying time period but need not necessarily have won points.”

• The National Horse Show is also pleased to announce world-renowned course designer, Paul Jewell as the 2024 NHS Hunter Course Designer.


NHS is committed to strengthening the hunter divisions not only at the National Horse Show but at competitions throughout the year and feels that these changes to the 2024 competition help to achieve that goal.
