Thanks very much for your suggestion. I will try it out on the week end. I did get some nice work from her this morning, so I must try and do whatever I did again and see if I can get it consistently. We have some side reins like the ones you mentioned so i will use them tomorrow.

At 2:00am on November 6, 2009, vickie lawson said…: hi rekha: with a horse like that i go back to lunging in side-reins so they learn where their head is supposed to be. i first use side reins with a large web elastic bit and they go on the girth, up between the front legs and then attach to the bit rings. this way the horse must use it's back, with side reins from the side of the girth, they can go hollow, so i have used the elastic ones first. then when that's going well i switch to regular placed side reins-leather with a round rubber 'donut' in them that has a bit of give. i haven't had trouble with horses going above the bit.
