Hi everyone,
My horse's right eye has been crusty on and off for a few days. It's not swollen and doesn't seem to be hurting him. I thoroughly cleaned the eye area, then put in some eye ointment yesterday and am wondering what else should be done.
What does everyone else do?
Thanks!

Hi Barbara, It might be a dose of conjunctivitis, which is very contagious. I'd be getting the vet ,you don't want it to spread through the stables. They will most probably give you some Opticlox ,which is an antibiotic that's very good at clearing up that sort of thing. Hows the appendicitis? Cheers Geoffrey
Hi Geoffrey,
Donnie's eye is much better thanks to some ointment I've been applying. My vet is out on Wed for shots, so I'll ask him to take a look.
The appendix - or lack thereof - is coming along really well. I can't believe that on Fri it will be six weeks! I got on and walked around yesterday and felt perfectly fine, so tomorrow (5 days short of my go ahead date) I'll do a bit of trot. Just a bit. By Friday, I'll be back full swing! Yay!! What's doing down under? I guess you are heading toward cooler weather just as the snow here is melting. How nice to have friends on the other side of the world! :)
Well, we went to the first event of the season on the weekend. My horse's first one, and my first one since 2000! We were 6th after the dressage phase( although I think the judges were a bit generous) , did a clear SJ round. So I was very pleased with him . He's done a lot of Showjumping but that was his first time in a dressage arena. The x-country started out well , he was very green around the course , very looky . Had a run-out out of the water at a brush skinny. Looking at the video, I over rode the water and didn't have the steering on the way out. Went back and did the whole thing again and he went " oh you want me to do that! OK." Had another run-out four fences later, he was too busy looking at the people sitting at the back of the jump to notice it , so I turned him away before we got there to get his mind in the job. My wife Kate , who was in the other Intro class , had her horse shy in front of that jump when the people stood up just as she lined up the fence, she lost her balance and not wanting to upset the horse ,stepped off, of course thats elimination now. She was a little disappointed, she was 3rd til then! Both of us were pretty happy with our steeds though . VERY glad to hear you are on the verge of riding again, that will do your mental health no end of good . So, take it easy, not too many Grand Prix movments to start with!! Cheers Geoffrey
