I was hoping to limit my search to the Ontario/Quebec region, but I now find myself looking at ads in NY and Florida.

Any leads would be most appreciated! Who knew it was going to be this hard?!

Dear Barbara,

May I make a suggestion? Look for a horse under 16 hands.
Many times when I read about your relationship with Donnie it occured to me that you may really enjoy owning and riding an Arabian. However good Arabs tend to be small horses, but their strides can be just as extended and powerful as 16+ hand horses. Plus the Arabs (if well treated) tend to like people more than most horses do.
Another thing about smaller horses is that when their feet land on the ground there is a LOT less weight coming down on the horse's leg. This can really reduce the wear and tear on the horse's physique. Also a decently conformed and decently trained Arab MAY have less problems with its back, I have noticed the bigger horses often have back problems even while young.
I'd also suggest a nice TB, but I get the feeling that you would like the Arab temperment a lot better. Yes, an Arab will DEMAND that you ride much better (they do me!), but I get the feeling that you need a horse that will stretch YOUR abilities. And believe me, if you train an Arab for advanced dressage riding (NOT behind the bit) you will have proven yourself as a superior horsewoman, not every rider can do this.
And you get to fly without wings while still staying on the horse's back!
I hope you do not mind this dressage world politically incorrect idea. In my work small horses reign supreme, especially Arabs. I can get more out of them with less work on my part.
Good luck in finding your ideal horse.
