I've heard reining called, western dressage. Having taken some basic dressage, as a western rider, and watched reining competitions...I'd say that is fairly accurate. I should mention that the first year of basic dressage I took...I rode a western saddle. JMO, basic dressage is something that would benefit every horse/rider, no matter what type of saddle is used.
